Former Eurosport journalist Dean Jones shed light on the ongoing speculation surrounding Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland and his potential move to Rangers.
According to Jones, as of the final hours of the January transfer window, the possibility of Shankland making a move to Ibrox had not been ruled out. He revealed, “Even in the closing hours of the window, I wasn’t given any certainties about him not leaving Hearts.”
Jones also highlighted the fact that despite the transfer not materializing in January, the 28-year-old striker has not signed a contract extension with Hearts. This has led to suggestions that a summer transfer to Rangers might still be on the cards.
“Yeah, Hearts fans are probably not much better off here because he still hasn’t signed a new contract, and the speculation is going to continue that another club is going to try to sign him,” Jones stated. “So that probably speaks volumes about where this guy might be taking his career next.”
The discussions between Lawrence Shankland and Rangers are believed to be ongoing, making a potential move in the upcoming summer transfer window highly plausible. Despite the winter transfer window closing without a deal, Rangers’ persistent interest in Shankland indicates that he remains a key target for Philippe Clement’s side.
Shankland’s stellar performances in the Scottish Premiership and his impressive goal-scoring record have made him an attractive prospect for Rangers as they seek to strengthen their attacking options.
Furthermore, Shankland’s contract situation at Hearts, where he has yet to sign a new deal, adds fuel to the speculation surrounding his potential departure. With Rangers being relatively quiet in the winter transfer window regarding permanent signings for a first-team striker, all signs point to a potential pursuit of the Scotland international’s signature in the upcoming summer transfer window.
