Rangers is unlikely to finalize a new contract for midfielder John Lundstram before the conclusion of the season, according to comments made by Chris Jack.
Lundstram, the English midfielder, is set to become a free agent at the end of the season. Reports have suggested that both Ipswich Town [Ezgi Alp, 18 April] and Trabzonspor are eager to secure his signature for a summer transfer. Philippe Clement has previously expressed interest in seeing the 30-year-old sign a new deal at Ibrox, but Chris Jack, a journalist for Rangers Review, believes the club is aware that announcing an extension for Lundstram might not sit well with supporters.
Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel on April 19th, Jack stated, “I asked the manager about this a couple of weeks ago, and he said he was happy with Lundstram and he wanted a contract signed. Since then, his form has not been good.”
Jack continued, “I think we’re waiting until the end of the season, and I’d be surprised if Rangers decide now is the time because you know what the reaction will be. Can you imagine the replies to the Rangers’ Twitter post? You just know exactly what the reaction is going to be. Either way, now is not the time.”
The uncertainty surrounding Lundstram’s contract situation adds to the intrigue of Rangers’ offseason plans as they prepare for the next campaign.
