Jack Butland “Extremely Unlucky” to Miss England Call-Up, Says Sky Sports Journalist

Sky Sports journalist Michael Bridge has shed light on Rangers’ goalkeeper Jack Butland’s near miss from Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad, describing him as “extremely unlucky” to have been overlooked.

According to Bridge, Southgate had a tough decision to make between Butland and Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale for the third goalkeeper spot in the squad, ultimately opting for the latter. However, the consideration of Butland for the national team serves as a testament to his performance this season.

In an interview with Give Me Sport on March 28th, Bridge stated, “I was told that he was extremely unlucky not to make this England squad. There was a lot of deliberating over whether him or Aaron Ramsdale should have taken that third spot.”

Bridge further emphasized the significance of Butland’s contention for an England call-up while playing for Rangers, highlighting that it dispels the notion that players must leave Scotland to pursue their international aspirations.

“That tells me two things – he is doing ever so well this season, and you can get in the England squad by playing in Scotland, which is a huge plus for Rangers,” Bridge remarked.
