Ianis Hagi Impresses at Euros, Barry Ferguson Hints at Ibrox Return

Barry Ferguson has suggested attacking midfielder Ianis Hagi could return to Ibrox next season after a strong showing at EURO 2024 with Romania.

Hagi impressed as Romania reached the knockout stages for just the second time in their history. Ferguson, writing in the Daily Record, believes Hagi’s performances warrant another chance at Rangers.

“There’s no doubt Hagi will be given some extra time off,” Ferguson said. “But he strikes me as a young man who’ll be eager to get back to work and impress the new manager.”

“His talent has never been in question, and he’s shown over the last few weeks he’s fully fit and back to his best. He could come back and be a major positive surprise for the club.”

Hagi began his Rangers career with promise after joining on loan from Genk in January 2020, eventually earning a permanent transfer. However, he struggled to consistently deliver and often found himself as a backup. This led to a loan spell at Deportivo Alaves last season, where he scored just twice in 24 appearances.

It remains to be seen if Rangers manager Philippe Clement shares Ferguson’s optimism about Hagi’s future at Ibrox.
