According to a report by Glasgow Live, Alfredo Morelos, the 27-year-old striker who recently departed from Rangers, has expressed his intention to continue his footballing career in Europe despite not having finalized a move. Morelos, who was part of the significant squad overhaul undertaken by Rangers this summer, including players like Ryan Kent and Scott Arfield, is patiently waiting for a new opportunity to arise.
“We are currently working towards making that happen,” Morelos stated through Glasgow Live. “I have made it clear I want to stay in Europe and play football there. I still don’t have anything and there is nothing close, but hopefully something interesting will come up. I am calm and relaxed about the situation. I have been able to spend a lot of time with my family for a change. That has been nice.”
The Colombian striker has been linked to several clubs, including Everton and Sevilla, as reported by the Liverpool Echo. However, despite his impressive record as Rangers’ top European goalscorer, Morelos has yet to secure his future in the game. He remains optimistic that a suitable opportunity will arise soon, stating, “I want to play in a good European league which my family would enjoy. I am looking forward to the new season, just as I did every single season when I was at Rangers.”
Reflecting on his time at Rangers, Morelos expressed pride in his achievements at the club. “At Rangers, I had great years there, and I am proud of how it went for me when I was there,” he remarked. “My favorite memory was winning the Scottish Premiership, but I was pleased with how I did in every season. Now it is just a case of waiting for a new opportunity elsewhere.”
Despite experiencing a relatively subdued season at Ibrox, it is surprising that Morelos has not yet attracted the interest of top teams. As a free transfer, the Colombian international could potentially prove to be a bargain and a valuable addition for any European club seeking a reliable goalscorer. Notably, Morelos has been highly prolific in European competitions, with his best return being 14 goals in 17 Europa League fixtures during the 2019/20 season.
The striker has showcased his ability to score against teams from various backgrounds, demonstrating his versatility beyond domestic competitions. However, it is worth noting that Michael Beale highlighted Morelos’ need for increased energy last season, which resulted in him losing his starting position to the now-departed Antonio Colak, as reported by BBC Sport. This observation may have led potential suitors to question his current work rate and ability.
Nonetheless, Morelos remains confident and patient, believing that a move will materialize in due course. His attributes and proven goalscoring abilities make him an attractive prospect for many clubs. Among the clubs linked to him, Everton and their home ground, Goodison Park, could be an ideal destination if Morelos can successfully transition from Scottish football to the highly competitive Premier League and replicate his impressive scoring form for manager Sean Dyche. Given Everton’s financial constraints in the current transfer window, acquiring a proven match-winner on a free transfer could be a perfect move for all parties involved, satisfying Morelos’ desire to continue playing in Europe.
As time passes, Morelos awaits his next chapter, which is likely to be just around the corner.
