Feyenoord, the Dutch champions, are rumored to be eyeing a move for Japanese striker Ayase Ueda, a development that could play a significant role in Rangers’ pursuit of star striker Danilo from De Kuip. Michael Beale revealed that he has been closely following LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes for a “long time,” indicating the club’s intent on bolstering their squad.
According to reports from Holland on Wednesday, Feyenoord faced disappointment as their top target, Emanuel Emegha of Sturm Graz, turned down their advances. However, Feyenoord now has its sights set on Cercle Brugge’s Ayase Ueda, a player valued at £6 million, who has emerged as a prime target for the Rotterdam club.
Ayase Ueda had an impressive debut season in European football, netting an impressive 23 goals in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League after making the switch from the J-League side Kashima Antlers. This remarkable feat has caught the attention of Feyenoord’s sporting director, Dennis te Kloese, who reportedly admires the Japanese striker’s abilities.
Despite Feyenoord’s interest, Ayase Ueda’s potential move may hinge on the future of Santiago Gimenez, Feyenoord’s current main striker. If Gimenez stays, Ueda might have to settle for a backup role, particularly since Danilo already occupies that position. The Dutch side is hesitant to let Danilo depart without securing a suitable replacement.
Rangers, on the other hand, have been actively pursuing several targets, with LAFC midfielder Jose Cifuentes and Feyenoord’s Danilo high on their radar. Michael Beale, in an interview with Sky Sports, expressed his admiration for Cifuentes and hinted at a possible imminent move for the talented midfielder.
“He’s a player that I’ve followed for a long time,” Beale said. “He’s obviously played very, very well in the MLS, performed exceptionally for his national team, and it’s an area of midfield where we’d like to add one more for sure. I think it’s close. Hopefully, we can get that one over the line.”
The prospect of Feyenoord signing Ayase Ueda could open the door for Rangers to secure their desired striker, Danilo. With both clubs eyeing potential reinforcements, the transfer window promises to be an exciting period for fans eagerly awaiting new additions to their respective squads.
