Ex-Gers Star Barry Ferguson Claims Borna Barisic’s Ibrox Exit is “All But Tied Up”

Former Rangers midfielder Barry Ferguson has suggested that defender Borna Barisic’s departure from Ibrox is a forgone conclusion.

Barisic is in the final months of his contract with the Scottish giants, allowing him to discuss pre-contract agreements with other clubs. Trabzonspor of the Turkish Super Lig have been heavily linked with the Croatian left-back, and Ferguson believes a deal is on the verge of completion.

“He’s already got his next deal all but tied up with Trabzonspor,” Ferguson told the Daily Record. However, Ferguson insists Barisic remains fully committed to Rangers for the remainder of the season, citing his passionate celebration of Cyriel Dessers’ winner against St Mirren at the weekend.

“Did you see, for example, the way Barisic celebrated the winner from Cyriel Dessers at St Mirren at the weekend?” Ferguson said. “He was very nearly halfway up the stairs of the stand with the ultras in the away end! Did that look like a man whose heart is no longer in it?”

“The joy was written all over his face when that ball hit the back of the net,” Ferguson added, emphasizing Barisic’s professionalism despite his impending exit.

Borna Barisic set to depart Rangers

Rangers signed Borna Barisic in 2018, along with many other players, under manager Steven Gerrard. While not the biggest name at the time, Barisic became a key player. He helped Rangers win the Scottish Premiership, Scottish Cup, and League Cup, and they’re still in the running for more this season!

However, it seems time for Barisic to move on. A younger player, Ridvan Yilmaz, has taken his starting spot, and renewing Barisic’s contract (he turns 32 in November) might not be the best option.

Barisic will hopefully win at least one more trophy with Rangers before saying goodbye. With 234 appearances, 10 goals, and 54 assists in six seasons, Barisic has been a great signing for the club.
