Rangers has reportedly extended a “good offer” to secure the services of Benfica defender David Jurasek on loan. The revelation comes from the reputable source TEAMtalk, which disclosed on that, despite competing interest from a Bundesliga club, Rangers find themselves in a “strong position” by proactively making their move.
The potential transfer seems promising, as it is understood that Jurasek is receptive to relocating to Scotland. The deal, if all goes according to plan, could be finalized as early as next week. Benfica, it seems, is exclusively interested in a loan arrangement.
Rangers manager, Clement, has explicitly identified the left-back position as an area of vulnerability within the squad. This move aligns with concerns over the future of Ridvan Yilmaz and Borna Barisic, both of whom have been subjects of transfer speculation. Barisic, in particular, faces an imminent contract expiry at the end of the season, necessitating the urgent acquisition of a new left-back before summer.
Despite his limited 12 appearances for Benfica since his summer move from Slavia Prague, Jurasek brings a wealth of experience, having competed in the Champions League. The 23-year-old Czech international has already earned five caps with the national team, showcasing his prowess at the senior level with nine goals to his name.
Jurasek’s potential arrival could fill the void at left-back, offering a dynamic attacking option akin to the role played by James Tavernier on the right flank. Rangers are banking on their early offer to sway Benfica in favor of the deal, preempting any competing interest from Bundesliga and English clubs. The urgency to secure Jurasek’s signature reflects Rangers’ commitment to bolstering their squad and addressing critical positional needs during the ongoing transfer window.
