Ben Davies Nears Loan Move to Birmingham City as Rangers Reshuffle Defense

Rangers defender Ben Davies is reportedly close to securing a loan move to Birmingham City, as the English club aims to strengthen its defensive options. The 29-year-old central defender has fallen down the pecking order at Ibrox, with John Souttar, Leon Balogun, and new signing Robin Propper ahead of him in the lineup.

According to reports, Rangers are actively looking to bolster their defensive ranks further, having recently had a bid for Almeria defender Kaiky rejected. The proposed exit of Davies could provide the Glasgow club with the flexibility to pursue other transfer targets.

The Daily Record reports that Birmingham City is nearing an agreement for a season-long loan deal for Davies, which could include an option to buy at the end of the season. The club is reportedly eager to finalize the move as early as today, with hopes that Davies can join the squad in time for their upcoming match against Leyton Orient.

Davies, who was signed by Rangers from Liverpool in 2022 for an initial fee of £3 million, has struggled for regular playing time over the past two seasons. The move to Birmingham offers him the opportunity to gain more consistent minutes on the pitch.

The loan move would also align with Rangers manager Philippe Clement’s recent admission that the club needs to offload some players before making new signings. This morning, it was revealed that Rangers had offered £650,000 to loan Kaiky with a potential future fee of £6 million, but the offer was turned down by Almeria.
