Barry Ferguson Suggests Potential Summer Transfer Exit for Jack Butland Linked to Euro 2024 Involvement

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland could be set for a summer transfer exit if he does play a part in England’s Euro 2024 campaign, according to Barry Ferguson.

Butland’s standout performances have caught Gareth Southgate’s eye, and the Rangers goalkeeper is being considered for a recall before Euro 2024. Ferguson acknowledges that this could attract interest from the Premier League for a potential transfer.

Despite delivering stellar performances for Philippe Clement’s side this season, Butland’s future at Rangers seems uncertain as Gareth Southgate contemplates including him in the national squad for the upcoming European Championship.

Butland’s remarkable form between the goalposts for Rangers has garnered attention, particularly following his outstanding saves in the recent 2-1 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on February 28. Barry Ferguson, expressing his insights in a column for the Daily Record on March 1, believes that Butland’s impressive displays could lead to increased transfer interest from Premier League clubs.

Ferguson stated, “He’s a certainty to make the next England squad, and if Gareth Southgate doesn’t take him to the Euros this summer, I’ll be very surprised.” The former footballer continued to emphasize Butland’s quality, comparing him favorably to other prominent English goalkeepers: “No one is going to tell me that he’s not every bit as good or better than the likes of Jordan Pickford, Dean Henderson, Sam Johnstone, or Nick Pope.”

The pundit expressed concern about the potential consequences of Butland’s participation in Euro 2024, saying, “And yes, I don’t even want to think about what might happen in the summer if he does head to Germany and then clubs in the Premier League realize what they’ve missed out on.”
