Barry Ferguson Has Refused to Rule Out the Possibility of Derek McInnes Taking Over as Rangers Manager

Barry Ferguson has refused to discount the possibility of Derek McInnes taking over the reins at Ibrox. Ferguson emphasized the need for a strong character to lead the team, and McInnes is among the names being considered for the position.

Rangers finds themselves in search of their second new manager in just 10 months following the departure of Michael Beale amid a disappointing start to the season. The club is determined to conclude its search for a new manager before the week’s end, with Kevin Muscat and Philippe Clement reported as the front-runners, according to the Scottish Daily Mail on October 10.

Barry Ferguson, speaking on the Go Radio Football Show on October 9, shared his thoughts on what the next Rangers manager should bring to the table: “I think you need a real strong character, I think you need a bit of experience. The Rangers board need to go and get a really strong guy who can handle the expectations of being the Rangers manager.”

Ferguson went on to express his opinion on Derek McInnes, saying, “Don’t rule out Derek McInnes. I know I’ll get a few people having a pop at me but Derek McInnes knows the game inside out, he knows how to set a team up and I think over the piece during his managerial career, he’s had a decent career at it.”

The former Rangers skipper believes that the decision regarding the next manager is imminent: “But it will be interesting to see by the end of the week, which I firmly believe they will need to make a decision and bring him in, I would like to think the new manager has got a bit of time in the build-ups to the home game against Hibs.”

With the managerial appointment expected to be finalized soon, the Rangers faithful will be eagerly awaiting the announcement and hoping that the chosen candidate can guide the team to success. Derek McInnes remains in the mix as a potential candidate, and the decision of who will steer the Light Blues forward will undoubtedly have a significant impact on the club’s future.
