Rangers legend Ally McCoist has revealed he would be willing to sacrifice a result in Rangers’ Europa League clash with Tottenham Hotspur if it guarantees victory over Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup final this weekend.
The Light Blues face Spurs at Ibrox tonight, with former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou leading the London side into a fiery atmosphere. Philippe Clement’s Rangers have gained momentum with five wins in their last six matches across all competitions, while Postecoglou faces mounting criticism as Spurs sit seven points off the Premier League’s top four.
Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist emphasized the importance of Sunday’s showdown at Hampden Park, where Rangers could secure a trophy at the expense of their city rivals.
“Define battering?” McCoist quipped when co-host Alan Brazil asked if he would trade a defeat to Spurs for victory over Celtic. “Because if we get beaten tonight, we still have a fairly good chance of qualification.
“So to answer your question, I will take a 2-0 tonight and a win on Sunday, how’s that?”
When Brazil playfully suggested the reverse outcome, McCoist responded with humor: “Al, the line has gone a bit funny.”
