Agent Claims Rangers Rejected Chance to Sign £20M Ace Linked With Big Transfer

Bologna captain Lewis Ferguson’s agent, Bil McMurdo, has disclosed that Rangers once turned down the talented midfielder when he was just a teenager.

McMurdo shed light on the early setback in Ferguson’s career, stating, “Ferguson was rejected at 14 by Rangers.” Despite this initial setback, the now 24-year-old midfielder remained resilient and unwavering in his determination to succeed. McMurdo added, “(He) came to me to tell me that this had not affected him at all and, in the future, he would play in Serie A. Already at 14, he had a dream of playing for Italy.”

Fast forward to the present day, and Ferguson finds himself captaining Bologna, a team in pursuit of Champions League qualification under the management of Thiago Motta. The Scottish international’s journey is a testament to his perseverance and belief in his abilities, turning a rejection at a young age into a dream realized.

The story takes an interesting twist as Rangers, who had previously rejected Ferguson, showed interest in him during the summer of 2021, a full year before his move to Italy. The rejection by Rangers, coupled with the subsequent success at Bologna, positions Ferguson as one of those ‘one that got away’ scenarios for the Scottish club.

McMurdo revealed, “Rangers showed an interest during the summer of 2021 – 12 months before he moved to Italy – and also ‘rejected’ the chance to sign the 10-time Scotland international long before he was a first-team regular at Pittodrie.”
