Robby McCrorie has described his decision to leave Rangers for Kilmarnock as an “easy” one as he prepares for an emotional return to Ibrox. The goalkeeper, now a key player for Killie, is focused on helping his team end their four-game winless run when they face his former club tonight.
McCrorie, 26, spent over a decade at Rangers but struggled to secure regular first-team action, making just seven senior appearances. Reflecting on his move to Kilmarnock, he said: “It was easy for me to get out because I wanted to play games, and I’m thankful for the opportunity. The gaffer and the club did a lot to make it happen, and I’m enjoying it. I’ve had a run of games, and I just want to keep improving.”
Kilmarnock’s last victory over Rangers came in October, courtesy of a late goal from Marley Watkins at Rugby Park. McCrorie admits he wouldn’t mind a repeat performance, even if it means disappointing old friends. “The main thing is that I’m going there as a Kilmarnock player and wanting to get a good result for Kilmarnock,” he stated.
“The hardest bit about leaving was that you build up good relationships with people over a long period of time,” McCrorie added. “But I’m here for football first and foremost. It’s a huge game for us and a chance to get a bit of momentum.”
Acknowledging the challenge of returning to Ibrox, he said: “I’m looking forward to it. I’ll be playing at one of the biggest and best stadiums, and you’ve just got to embrace it.”
