Steven Naismith Praises Ianis Hagi’s Resilience at Rangers

Former Hearts manager Steven Naismith has hailed Ianis Hagi’s determination and professionalism after the Romanian midfielder made a key contribution in Rangers’ 1-0 win over St Johnstone. Speaking on BBC Sportscene on Friday, December 1, Naismith commended Hagi’s perseverance during a challenging period at the club.

Hagi showcased his quality by creating the opportunity that led to Jason Holt’s own goal, securing three points for Rangers.

Naismith was particularly impressed with how Hagi handled being sidelined, crediting his attitude and work ethic.

“The biggest thing that’s impressive is when he was out of the team and looked as if he didn’t have a future, he didn’t just sit, train, [and show he was] not interested,” Naismith said. “He played in the B team, consistently played there, scored goals, got his fitness. Probably helped the younger players in the squad. Which means he’s ready, ready to come back in.”

Hagi’s commitment to staying match-fit has paid off. After excelling with Rangers’ B team at Auchenhowie and impressing for Romania during the recent international break, he is now beginning to make an impact at the senior level.

Naismith added: “Yes, he’ll tire, but he’s ready to contribute. He did it for Romania in the last international break, and he’s now starting to do it for Rangers.”
